New Beak snakes had their first meal!
Last week I picked up a pair of Rufous beaked snakes. Theyre amazing little critters. Last night was feeding day for everyon else so I figured I'd give 'em a try and see if they were ready. I put in a deli cup lid with 6 thawed fuzzies and they were gone within the hour! These guys are usually very observant and watching whats going on in the room around them.[ Since I got my pair in theyve been spending alot of time hiding so I wasnt sure if they'd be ready to eat as they're still settling in but sure enough they cleaned the plate and had some seconds this morning!
Ill put some pictures of them up soon I just want to give some digestion time then I'll add up some pictures.

Thats good to hear. Not familiar with them where are they from? New additions eating for the first time are always exciting feedings.

Theyre form Africa. Very similar husbandry to keeping ball pythons. However they are a rear fanged species. The really nice part of them eating is that they were wild caught and took to F/T with no hesitation. I got some live just in case but didnt end up needing them.

Once they've had some more time to digest and settle I'll take some pictures and put them up.

Re: New Beak snakes had their first meal!
Welcome and best wishes. Looking forward to pics of your critters. From what I saw on Google they're a very unique looking species. Do they do pretty well in captivity?

Re: New Beak snakes had their first meal!
I've had them for a week now and they're settling in well. Theyre still quite nervous and hide when they see me looking at them. But a friend has one and when he comes into the room it pokes its head out looks at him then its plate then him then the plate and back and forth. theyre strange because they wont feed from tongs like most but wait for food to be dropped onto a plate then devour it. So far they seem to be doing good. wasnt sure if they would be ready to eat yet but thats a good sign.
Anyone else here have any of these guys?

Re: New Beak snakes had their first meal!
Ya when I saw them on the order sheet I'd never heard of them so I looked them up and did some research. Right away I knew they deeded to be added to my collection. Ill see tonight if I can get any pics of them in their viv. Theyre still pretty timid and just ate so I wont be taking them out, but will see if they're willing to pose for some pictures.

Hows their temperament? How potent is the venom?

Re: New Beak snakes had their first meal!
Their temperament is great very doscile. They can be picked up without hooks. The venom is quite mild its toxicity is comparable to that of a western hognose. Theyre a very docile species handling them is similar to a corn snake in the way that theyre very passive but like to move around a bit. Theres some YouTube of people handling them freely and discussing their venom. As I sit here typing this one has come out and is peeking at me over the top edge of her sand. I know if I were to try to get another picture she would go back into hiding. Im hoping they settle in soon so I can get a good picture for the Feb photo contest. I have an idea I just neet 1 to pose for it lol.

They get to 3.5' - 4.5' similar girth and length to kings.
