Retic problem.

So my herp experience is some what limited with large pythons but I have never had any problems with the ones I have kept.

So 2 days ago I bought a 13ft het albino tiger retic. It was in shed when I bought it, a few peices of shed had already come off. I got him home, put him in his cage, sprayed him down and left him alone. About 24 hours later he had not started his shed yet. I soaked him and put him back in his cage and put a large ruff log in there. Now it's been more than 2 days and there is no loose shed from his face to about 9 feet down. It appears to be compleatly stuck. The last few feet is mostly peeled off... So either it's stuck or I am just rushing it but like i said a lot of shed on the last 3 feet is off or pealing. The guy had it pretty dry and on news papper.

Don't stress, he'll get it off. If he hasn't gotten the eye caps or tail tip off in a week help him with that.

The best way I can describe the way it looks is the first 9 feet is in the first day of the entire shedding process and the last couple feet are in the last process of shedding. That's the way it looks, obviously that's not the case. So it's like trying to shed a snake in the he phase lol (can't be done)

Can you post a few pictures? He most likely just needs some time. I've had a few snakes that I had to move/handle/restrain while in shed and part of their shed came off and a few days later they got the rest off themselves. It happens.

So you can see if it wasn't for the loose shed on the tail you wouldn't even know he was in shed.

Ok thank you! I'm sure I am just rushing it. I am not used to anything having shedding problems, I know the standard crap when a bad shed happens but I just wanted to make sure this wasn't so thing really weird.

Doing good after a very very long soak. All shed has been removed but the head which should be finished in the next few days.

re retained shed
viscotears water based eye jell is really good for retained eye caps,should he have any further issues,for the body,i would just bath him and peel the shed off with my fingers

Thanks guys!.. I ended up having to do the whole thing by hand after he soaked for a few hours ..

Thanks for the tip, I'll defiantly be getting some of that.

The yellow doesn't really show in this picture but it shows some of his brilliant iridescents.

Beautiful tiger mate, I'm glad to see you got him sorted. Also if any of our larger snakes have a bad shed we've found that putting on exfoliating gloves like the ones you would use in the shower and letting them run through your hands helps remove the skin easier

That's one of those great tricks you pick up along the way, I'll defiantly put that one in by tool box, thanks!
