My carpets are the same way. They have no concern for whats going on aroung them. They smell food they eat.

My King is like that. She's cool. I just wish my Hog would eat. She wants nothing to do with it right now.

My hogs been a jerk since October, just ate for the first time after I scented a fuzzy with a dead goldfish.

Don't worry mine's the same way Derek. He ate like a month ago out of no where, now he's back to not eating. As the days get longer we should start to see a change. I have a feeling this is going to be an annual thing!

Re: Eating on my hand

I did that with my corn snake, then the last couple times I handled the bugger I was bitten and struck at. Granted, I had been handling mice to feed a couple others right before I handled the corn, and it wasn't his/her feeding day yet, but that one's always on the lookout for more food. The bite was noticeable but not actually painful, little bugger seemed to be squeezing the end of my finger while it was clamped on for a minute, then finally let loose and behaved. The next occasion was just a quick strike, might not have noticed if I hadn't seen it. Never tried it with the carpet, though the feeding response is also quite strong, I just dangle by the tail for that one.

Re: Eating on my hand

There use to be a group on another forum called, "The in hand feeding club". They would post pictures of their snakes eating in their hands. I got caught up in it and had 4 snakes at one time eating in my hand. I no longer do it, but find no problem with it.

Re: Eating on my hand

Everything I have ever been taught was to be sure not to have a snake associate my hand with food. I have always used tongs. Is this inaccurate information? A good number of the snakes I was working with were used for educational programs with the public having access to handling and or touching the animals.

Re: Eating on my hand

No one is saying it is the smartest thing in the world to do. It is just some good clean fun with small, non venomous snakes. It does not hurt the snake.

Re: Eating on my hand

Well I don't do this all the time, only every now and then. It's just fun to have my snake eat in my hand. I handle him a lot and I have never been bitten before.
