Just joined
Just found the site, always looking for more information, usually after I realized I messed up! I have a ball python, about 4'. Just built a new container for him(?), looking for advise on the best way to heat it. My UTH say not for use on wood.

Re: Just joined
Welcome and best wishes painter. Have you considered a radiant heat panel or ceramic heat emitter?

Re: Just joined
Best to assume I know nothing. I live in a small town with only a Petsmart. I am finding out quickly that they don't really have everything I need. Where is a good place to buy the heaters your are refering to?
Side question, what is BRB? I have seen that in several posts.

Re: Just joined
BRB is a Brazillian Rainbow Boa.
Reptile Products You Can Trust | Reptile Basics Inc has a bunch of heating options for sale, or you can just google search these products to find good prices. Amazon sometimes has great deals.

Re: Just joined
Here is my enclosure. It is my first attempt at building a bigger place. After reading some of the threads I see I have a ways to go, but I want to make sure I am heading the right direction so I don't have to keep correcting my mistakes. The plywood is about 3/16 thick, and my first priority is to get the temp correct inside. On the left side I used wire mesh to hold the lights, but from what I am reading I need to change that to something to help control the humidity.
I am open to all suggestions, and you will not hurt my feelings telling me what is wrong. Please be specific, with all the products out there I am drowning in choices!

Re: Just joined
Sorry, 5' long, 2' deep, 2' tall. The current hide seems to be under the water dish (only one in town large enough.

Re: Just joined
Your heat lights should heat it enough being you live in Texas. I would get a piece of plexiglass and and cut it to cover about 2/3 of the top to keep the humidity up. If you need to you can mist the cage lightly to also help with the humidity.
Also is the wood sealed so water won't damage it?

Re: Just joined
Thanks! Yes I sealed the wood twice. All but about a 2'x10" section is covered on top. Just have wire where I put the lights. Not currently getting enough heat, going to move the cage to a warmer part of the house while we are in the cold streak. Not sure why my snake chose the coldest place to hide, working on a better hide soon.
