RHP mount location

Hey everyone

Couldn't find a topic on this. I just received 2 RHP from pro products. I have a 24x24x12 PVC and 48x24x16 PVC. How far do you space your RHP from the edges? It doesn't make sense to put it too close to the side and have the heat warm the side wall instead of more into the substrate and colder sides.

You mount it wherever you want depending on what kind of environment you want to create.

I place all mine all the way to one side(usually left), to the back corner.

That's what I was planning but curious if you guys put it flush to the corner or space it out an inch or two.

I place mine like mikoh all the way to one side but centered.

It really depends on what you want to do, but it shouldn't really matter. In some of my enclosures, I space it out to around the center of the ceiling(left side) so the heat goes onto a branch/perch. On other cages i put it all the way to the back(left side) so the heat goes onto a shelf/hide...etc.

You can always turn the cage upside down, put the panel in, turn it on for awhile, then take temps across the cage with a temp gun to see what ranges you are getting before permanently mounting it. Remember they heat objects not the air.

I mount mine about an inch from the side, then the thermal induction creates air movement as well in the enclosure, aiding in the additional ambient temp in the cage.

Thanks for the tips guys, the smaller cage is occupied but the large one isn't. It's more the large one I'm interested in to get a good thermal gradient. Fairly sure the 24x24 should be fine in the corner.

Yeah, that will work fine. How are you setting up the thermostat probe?

In my 24x24 I have a zilla digital temp/humdity sensor and a zoomed reptitherm 500 controling the UTH. I picked up 2 ranco hvac thermostats this week but haven't wired them yet. They will be controlling the UTH and RHP in both tanks soon. I also bought another digital temp/humidity for the larger cage. I haven't set up my 48x24 yet. I'll end up with digital temp read outs on both hot and cold sides. I also have an HVAC infrared gun from work to spot check. Right now the temp probes are located inside the warm hide. I'm maintaining about 90f on the hot side. The cold side isn't as warm as it should be by any care sheet but my BP seems to move back and forth from one hide to the other so seems unaffected by this. He has eaten every week since I bought him, first was 2 days since bringing him home. I'll have his new home dialed in before I move him.

I have them in all the snake cages and all of them are mounted against one side, to really create a cold and warm side.

How exactly are you planning on running both the panel and uth on one ranco?

They come unwired so wire a grounded power bar. Assuming it maintains the right temperature otherwise they will have to be wired individually.

So I have my new cage setup. I originally had my UTH and pro products RHP wired to 1 ranco stat and while I maintained the 90F on the hot side reading on 2 different stats the ambient temp and cold side wasn't warm enough. The hot side would heat to fast and the RHP would not run long enough to heat the rest of the cage. When I tested it sitting on the bottom of the cage empty it would give me a 10 degree gradient with just the PVC. I wired my second ranco stat to control my RHP. I've got the UTH sensor buried in the substrate so I don't burn my BPs belly if he digs into the substrate as he often does in his hide. The RHP sensor is near the top to maintain good temps and raise ambient temps. So far after changing the setup a few hours later I'm getting better temps. I might need to tweak the setpoints of each stat but I'm going in the right direction. I'm still maintaining 90f on the hot side but ambient is climbing. I've positioned a rock and wood to the edge of the RHP to help carry heat to the other side and so far it's working. I'll post pics of his new home once I'm done. Thanks for all the help.
