Lighting for Spotted Carpet?

Hello everyone,

I have been looking into purchasing a juvenile spotted carpet python.

I have bought an Exo-Terra mini tall, which is 30 long x 30 deep x 45 tall

I bought a smaller terrarium because I have found that many keepers recommend keeping juveniles in smaller terrariums, then upgrading them as the snake grows.

It would be REALLY helpful if someone could tell me which lights to use, I'd like to stick to the Exo-Terra line, so if someone could tell me which lights that Exo-Terra sell it would be greatly appreciated (given the terrarium is 45 cm / 18 inches tall)

thanks in advance!

Re: Lighting for Spotted Carpet?

Personally I use their infrared basking lights for my jungle carpet pythons viv and it hold the temp in the tank at a stable level with the help of thermostats. It also helps me view her at night when shes most active without disturbing her. I also have their uv globes. What style is the viv? is it full glass?

Re: Lighting for Spotted Carpet?

I would honestly return that exo-terra for something else. That's designed for something arboreal (assuming 30x30x45 is in cm, you'll forgive us ignorant Americans, that comes out to about 12x12x18 inches) and your spotted python is almost exclusively terrestrial. You would be better off with something that is more along the lines of 60x30x30. As for bulb wattage I think you'll want a 100w bulb but I haven't used them in a while so someone else please correct me if that's the wrong output.

Yes it is indeed but you posted this in the Morelia forum instead of other Pythons , thats why we were slightly confused because it does not belong to the Carpet family
