omg so excited!
Ok, so I should wait till I actually have her, but I'm just sitting on my couch rolling it over in my brain how I will be receiving my first ever snake tomorrow morning!!!
Awaiting my beautiful female MBK from BHB reptiles (who were super awesome btw).
I have her 5 gal starter tank ready with sanichips, uth, dome heater, coconut hide, fake plant hide, and water bowl. I took some pics of it and decided to take some pics of my other enclosures as well to keep busy, so figured I'd share them with you!
If I did the file uploader right, the first pic is my MBKs tank.
The others are my crested geckos with the last being a standard 20 gal I customized with some expanding foam and other stuff I don't rightly recollect at this moment (sorry!).
Please forgive the mess as tomorrow is cleaning day. =)
I'll post my other tanks in another post as this one only let me do 5.

Re: omg so excited!
No idea why some of those came out sideways...sorrry! =/
This lot includes my melinistic male leo's tank, then the 20 long that 2 female leos share (a Murphy's patternless and a lavender snow), then my AFT female (she insists on having dirty water....silly girl...) then my first leo ever a male common hypo, then my bold stripe lavender snow male who is eyeing a left over super worm lol,
Again, cleaning day is tomorrow so please excuse the mess. =/

Re: omg so excited!
Cant wait to see your new MBK Minkness. Your snake is going to outgrow that 5gal tank pretty quickly though. Do you have hides on the warm and cool sides and is your uth controlled by a thermostat? If so, it sounds like you're ready to rock and roll! Best wishes!

I agree with EZ! A thermostat on your heat source is necessary. The snake will outgrow a 5 gal quickly. Just make sure whatever enclosure you use, make it escape proof! Small snakes can disappear through the smallest openings! I can't wait to see pics!

Re: omg so excited!
Thats soo exciting!! Is that dome heater anything like a hot rock heating system? Cause i have heard some pretty nasty horror stories about those things failing

Re: omg so excited!
No, the dome heater will help provide an ambient air temp or a more evenly heated rock surface if I had a rock in there, which I don't. The snake will not be able to touch the actual heater. =)
I also use rubber shelving liner in the bottom to defuse the UTH as well so that when the snake burrows it will not be right against the heated acrylic of the tank. Added benefit of that, is that most liners are also antibacterial.
In about a year when she us full grown, I will most likely upgrade her to a 40 gallon breeder tank or possibly a large, low zoomed with front opening doors. She will be utterly spoiled!

Re: omg so excited!
IMO, it's better to use a larger enclosure and just provide more cover. Small enclosures are very difficult to provide temperature and humidity gradients. I housed my baby desert king snake in a 4x2 animal plastics enclosure and he has done great with lots of hides and cover.

Re: omg so excited!
It's just to get her settled in and feeding right. I have the tanks just need the snake. Which btw still isn't here. Called fedex about it and now they are saying it'll be tomorrow before I receive it. I immediately called the breeder and they are working in it now. What's so frustrating is that I'm only 2-3 hours away from where she is. I'm anxiously awaiting a call from the breeder at this time. =(
This could not be more nerve wracking! At least the breeder is being super awesome about it all. Kudos to BHB on their business practices!

I know how exciting it is waiting for delivery for a new snake! I hope they get things straightened out! Don't forget pics after you get her settled in!

Re: omg so excited!
Good luck. I've always liked the looks of those MBK's. And Brian is a cool dude. I'm sure it will be a great snake. Hope you can get the shipping snafu sorted today.

Re: omg so excited!
Yeah, i wish I could meet Brian but I have been speaking with Stephanie for the past 2 weeks setting everything up and she's been great! It looks like I may not get the MBK until tomorrow, though supposedly fedex is working on getting her here today. We'll see. I was assured that she has a heat pack and in the warehouse so should be fine.
When I finally get her, I think I might cry.....
