How do you define jag carpet python?

Can carpet be called jag even though its 50% ij 25% jungle % 25 coastal jaguar but look like jag morph?

Or is jag specifically referring to PURE lineage of coastal carpet only?? o__O

I am getting bredli jag but its dad is bredli and its mother is a mix of what I desecribed above lol.

Jag is a mutation. It supposedly originated from coastals but the gene can be bred into any snake. All jags will be part coastal.

it come out are year or two ago...

turns out the Coastal producing the first Jag was a lie mate

Jan Eric Engel who produced the first Jag in Norway, did not have a permit/licence for Irian Jaya's,so told folk it was Coastal to stop getting into trouble with authorities

one Jag come out the first clutch, from a normal looking parent...

he went on to breed it back to the parent, then onto breed it with a normal Carpet,to prove out it is a co dom morph

so imo now every Jag has some Irian genetics

just got to love what the Jag mutation brings when crossing it with other Carpets

it done wonders for putting Carpet Pythons on the map

cheers shaun

P.S. The Jaguar co dom Morph is a pattern and colour mutation

Jag refers to the Jaguar pattern and colour mutation

a Jag either is one or it's not, there are no percentages involved, other than 100% Jag or not.it is or it isn't

it's a co dominant mutation, that in theory when bred should give you roughly 50% Jags and 50% siblings (non Jags) in a clutch

There was actually a discussion on this the other week on facebook. Most people seem to agree that the jags originated from coastals, and that Jan never said such a thing.

Either way, I don't really like jags lol.

Re: How do you define jag carpet python?

Here's a qoute from derek roddy from a discussion we had a while back on the origins of the jag mutation.

Quote:
The original Jag pairing was from 2 coastal type animals. I had a musician friend who was very close to Jan Eric and even had animals from the original pairing in his collection.

The Coastal/IJ rumor was started by 1 of 2 very well known breeders here in the US when Jan Eric wouldn't sell them the original Jag.
They wanted to buy it and take full credit for it and because of who they were in the industry......were very offended when Jan Eric didn't go along with their plans.
They came back to the states pissed and told the entire herp community that the animal was a cross to discredit Jan.
I spoke with 1 of these people in the mid/late 90s and was told this by them as well.

Now, there are questionable things that Jan did breed....but, the original Jag wasn't one of them.

I believe on these site some time back someone mentioned that it was all BS and it was in fact a true Coastal morph. That they were just trying to discredit him.
