concern over snake species :)

Hi! I guess this will be my first post then!
I have a normal nic. boa and I think its time for me to expand on my
snake. I am really interested in jungle carpet/ blood python sp/ brazilian rainbow boa but I can't seem to decide on what I really want.

I am a university student and I am not really buying it for breeding purpose but as a pet. It kinda concerns me that if I get something large as blood python, I may have problem looking for rent in the near future ! o__O

The temperament is not really an issue for me but rather what really concerns me is the space that the ADULT will need. I am sure the future landlord does not want too much of a big snake, let alone most snakes.

What I also noticed is that cheap boas/pythons are easy to buy but hard to sell since majority don't want cheap boas/pythons. So I am willing to spend near $250 CDN. What would be a good choice for me? I love those three snakes but I am just really stuck.

Welcome and best wishes krn. Of your 3 choices I like the JCP's most, then the BRB's. I'm not a big fan of bloods but I have seen some beautiful ones. The JCP's and BRB's are longer but the Bloods are heavier and more stout. The JCP and BRB adults are about 5-7 feet on average so they're nice sized but not too big. I've seen a few carpets in the $250 range but they can go much higher. Not sure on the BRB's or Bloods prices. Keep us posted on which one you go with. My next snake will be a carpet for sure

Re: concern over snake species :)

Based on your concern of space, I'd say brb. But honestly the difference in enclosure size of these species isn't going to be that drastically different. Most would agree bloods and short tails require a 4x2x1, most carpets 4X2X2 or 3x2x2, and Brb's 3x2x1 or 4x2x1. Bloods are much heavier bodied than either options, but carpets can get up to 10' depending on the species. If you wanna stay smaller, talk to breeders and find out which of their animals produce smaller offspring. Brb's are a wonderful choice and usually stay smaller but some females can get 7'. So in short, buy whatever you'll be happy with owning for the rest of its life, because the other details are very subjective.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Welcome! if your landlord isn't into too much of a big snake, i would skip the blood's.. They might not be very long, but adults are/look huge compared to a boa constrictor or a rainbow

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to mention that I really like Amazon Tree Boa Too! I don't really mind not handling. It just seems so beautiful with it wrapped around the tree and esp its huge eyes.

Hello,

Take a look into the snake profiles and care sheets ReptileTalk | Reptile Community » Reptile Care . There are more species that you might be interested.
