Does an ATB need a heat mat?

I currently just use a daylight 60W and a 60W night bulb.

Is it necessary to have a heat mat below the exo-terra as well? Is it really beneficial?

Not necessary as long as your temps are correct.

Ditto.

You could also use a radiant heat panel attached to the side instead of lights to keep humidity up much easier.
