Help identifying this snake please

i work in hoover, al (just south of birmingham). this snake was crawling thru our parking lot headed towards the lake behind our office building. this is the only picture that was taken. can anyone tell what it is?

Looks like a rat snake. Not sure what species you have where you live though. Harmless, nonvenomous snake.

Gray rat snake. One of the most commonly seen snakes in our area. Harmless and great to have around, as IW17 said.

thank you so much for the info! i'm used to seeing green snakes, garter snakes and dekay snakes but this is the first rat snake i've seen.
