The moment I first saw my jcp I knew I had to have her. I'd never owned a snake previously and everyone I talked to warned me against getting a jcp as my first but I refused to listen.
She's 16 months old and I've had her for a few weeks now. They told me she was very snappy and aggressive so I took that as a challenge. They told me she always goes for your hand during feeding and she likes to get hissy when people are close by.
Since I've had her she's been very social, coming to the glass every night to see what I'm up to. She hasn't yet failed to grab her food and has only gotten into a defensive stance when I've accidentally startled her.
She still hasn't bitten me and although that makes me extremely happy (because I must be doing something right) it's going to sound weird but im slightly disappointed as well because I long ago accepted that getting bitten is part of living with them and I want to experience all aspects of having them.
Every day I hold her I can't help but laugh inside thinking today's the day she'll get cheeky and tag me.
I guess there's always tomorrow hahaha

LOL. I know what you mean Malgus. I'd always heard that getting bit is a natural part of keeping snakes. I got my first tag from my newly arrived bull snake Apollo on 8/14/14. He was hissing and striking after being unboxed and placed in his tub. I left my hand in striking distance and he took full advantage. Now our bond is forged in blood (droplets). It was an over rated experience if you ask me .

Haha i know what you mean about being curious about what a strike is like...but my little rosy has never gotten aggressive or defensive and they only way i could ever see myself getting bit is if i stuck my hand in front of her after offering food but that would literally be asking for it, and im not that curious...yet

Glad you made the decision to get a carpet python. They aren't super hard to take care of; they are just a bit "high-strung" as babies and most people getting their first snake may not want to deal with that(or so they hear). I keep mostly carpet pythons and they are a blast. As yours ages, you may find him just hanging outside his hide most of the time as he gets comfortable in his home.

it will be a feeding response so she will NOT let go...

you will have to hold her head under the cold tap and trickle cold water onto her head,she should release you after that

She has a couple hides one in the hot part and one in the cold part of her viv but she never uses them she prefers being in the open
