What type of snake is this?

My uncle found it in northeastern PA. I've looked through a couple of nearby state snake selections and can't find one remotely similar to it.

If you could tell me the name, I'd greatly appreciate it!
The picture is attached.

Re: What type of snake is this?

I'd like to see a better picture of its head but I'm pretty sure it's a young Eastern Garter. The colors are a little strange to me but I'm not terribly familiar with Garters in general. They do come in a huge variety of colors and patterns, hopefully someone here has seen a similar local before.

Re: What type of snake is this?

It is in fact a Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis (Eastern garter snake)

A beautiful specimen at that..

Wow, what a gorgeous garter! I've never seen one quite like that before, what a great find!
