New Chelydra serpentina - Common Snapper

Tank, my 36+ pound snapping turtle has been all I've ever wanted in a turtle. I've been asked many times if I will try to raise another docile one. My response has always been "Tanks enough for me"
Well, all that changed on Tuesday and then again on Friday. This is a photo of Sherman. Sherman was found wandering around in a busy parking lot just across the street from my kid's school. I happened to be in that business looking for a larger stock tank to put my big man in. The employee I was talking to told me they had a little snapping turtle that needed a home. I of course said yes. Then on Friday the school called and said another baby was found in a bathroom. So now I have two of these little shelled-ones to care for. So far things have been good. They are bother eating and have outgoing personalities. They will be cared for until Spring then a decision will be made as to whether they stay or go. Training has already commenced for both of these young ones. They are smart and learn quickly. Sherman has already recognized the hemostats I use for feeding, that after just 2 meals. By the way the second hatchling is named Abrams.
Check out this little face. Notice the egg-tooth, these turtles must have hatched early in the week.

Very cute. It's almost hard to believe that they will grow into the huge turtles like tank in a relatively short period of time. Please keep us posted on their progress.

Abrams got a rock today and took full advantage of it.
