Smile Getting my first python soon, any tips?

So I've done my research and have got as much advice from books as I think I can possibly get but I was wondering if anyone has anymore tips for a first time owner. I'm getting a Jungle carpet python. The viv is on order and im getting all the components so as much help as possible with ideas would be great.
Thanks in advance

The person I was talking to said its reaching the end of its first year. He is going to get back to me in regards to its sex, exact age, feeding and handling records. I've handled it a few times on visits before i decided its the one for me and He says its not as nippy as some of the younglings his had.

My advice: get your cage set up first. Monitor conditions a few days, share pics here, get feed back, then get your snake.

That.

(Exactly that, make the changes the gang here advises on, and be happy)

All you need to do.

Re: Getting my first python soon, any tips?

At around a year's age you want to ask the guy if it is eating rats or mice. You want to get the snake eating rats, sometimes it can be a bit tricky switching jungles over. To be honest, I would be slightly hesitant to buy a snake from a guy that does not know the sex. It does not necessarily mean that the snake is unhealthy or that it has not been kept well- but for me that is a little red flag. Just something to consider.

If you get a setup that has height, you new snake will climb and perch on thick branches or ledges that you offer. They make great display animals.

Re: Getting my first python soon, any tips?

Yeah i was a bit concerned about him not knowing the sex but the owner of the store wasnt there to go over the details with me fully so thats why im dragging my feet before i take it home until i can talk to him in person. I was talking to one of the employees about it and his the one who doesnt seem to know much. Trust me the last thing i want to do is rush into this without knowing everything. Today I was making the final arrangements with the people im getting the viv from and they are going to get their close friend whos a breeder of jungles to come with me to make sure everything is as it should be. Been getting alot of help with it all from these people. If this breeder has any concerns about the deal im going to break it off and look elsewhere
