Hello from a few new members :)

Hi Everyone

I’ve always had a fascination for snakes (though my wife and our daughter less so). When I was younger, I tried to pick up a large water snake by its tail, but it felt so heavy and I freaked out and just let it slide along its way.Looking back on it, I am glad because maybe I would have gotten a nasty (non-venomous) bite, and I now enjoy watching snakes (without disturbing them). Also, I sure wouldn’t want something larger than me to come along and pick me up.

Anywho, I am very happy that there is such a great forum like this even though we did stumble across it out of somewhat ‘selfish’ reasons.More specifically, we recently found a snake in the basement of a house where we just didn’t think snakes could even live.We very much wanted to ID the snake so we searched the web and must have looked at 350+ photos in an effort to ID this mystery snake, but to no avail. We are still stumped. We posted a photo with the details in the (hopefully) appropriate section of this website and are very much looking forward to seeing if someone more knowledgeable can ID it and maybe even “school” us about how unusual (or not unusual) such a find is in an urban setting, how it may have gotten there, etc. We know we have snakes in parks in these parts, but they are literally MILES away from this house so we are just stumped silly!

Thanks for having us on the forum.

Best

Gregg, Leslie & Lizzie

Re: Hello from a few new members :)

Welcome and best wishes GZED. The milk snake you found was most likely an escaped pet. This forum is a great place for information and there are lots of friendly, knowledgeable folks here. Do some research, ask whatever questions you have, and I'm sure the good people here can help a lot. Maybe one day you'll join us and acquire a critter of your own
