Hiccuping snake

In all my years I have never seen a snake hiccup, but my Brook's King is hiccuping. He does it a few times a day for only a few minutes. He is healthy and eats good, has not been losing any weight. His temps and humidity levels are the same. Has anyone else ever seen this before?

Re: Hiccuping snake

There's a youtube vid of a burmese hiccupping. hiccups are usually an indicator of a blocked esophagus, so if it's not food related maybe there's something else there?? You might consider an xray. I'm just spitballing with no real knowledge.

Re: Hiccuping snake

My male SD retic did it for about a day, strangest noise I've ever heard and definitely freaked me out. I made a few calls to some bigger breeders and they said they've heard it before and it went away on it's own (or the snake figured it out).

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. It does not seem to bother him and he shows no signs of any illness.

Re: Hiccuping snake

You bet. I would still keep an eye on him more closely but overall I wouldn't be too concerned.
