Wood Stains or Paints Bad?
hey i was thinking of building an eclosure setup for multiple snakes and i was wondering if there are any woods, stains, or paints i should stay away from. i was going to just go to lowes or home depo so if it isnt sold cheaply at those stores i wont be using it anyway. thanks

Pine, cedar, eucalyptus. Anything with a strong odor generally should be avoided.

Re: Wood Stains or Paints Bad?
Use pine. It's cheapest. Seal you wood with polycrylic. It is $50 for a gallon but worth it. You can buy quarts for cheaper. Stain whatever color you want, then apply the polycrylic last. Min wax water based stain costs about $8. What are you building exactly?

Re: Wood Stains or Paints Bad?
i dont have an exact idea yet, but the jist of it is like a bunch of cubbie holes with plexiglass fronts with hinges and locks. i just have 2 baby corns right now, but i am getting #3 tomorrow and #4 in november. this time next year i plan to get 2 ball pythons. so i am basically trying to build something to properly house them all, utilizing vertical space while keeping them separate. i actually found a big cabinate with 5 levels that i may convert. i'll attach a picture...

Re: Wood Stains or Paints Bad?
yea a plexiglass front for each section, with hinges on the bottom and one of those bar lock things like you see on bathroom stall doors. my issue at the moment is what do i do about heat lamps and ventilation. i am going to have 2 corn snake sections, and 3 ball python sections, so i will need slightly more ventilation in 2 and slightly less in 3, for humidity reasons. i will get better pictures of the inside monday.

Re: Wood Stains or Paints Bad?
here is what i ended up doing... turns out the shelves in the cabinate were adjustable so instead of sealing them off and using them as tanks, i adjusted them to acomodate 3 levels of tanks with lights on top.
