Need Help Buying Snake

Hello. I'm in the middle of a snake dilemma and could use some advise. I was looking for a smaller snake to occupy my spare 20 gallon (long) tank I have. I can't decide between two snakes. The two I can't decide between is the western hognose and the Mexican milk snake. Do any of you have any experience with both of these? I love the colors of the milk snake, but I also love the fact that the hognose mimics cobras and play dead. (I'm not going to be harassing him) And I like that I can tell people I have a venomous snake. (well, sorta) I'd obviously like to handle them every once in awhile. Need to feed on f/t (I can pick up live pinkies if necessary every once in awhile, but it's a good 50 minute drive). And easy care requirements would be nice.
Thank you for your time.

Also, I apologize if this isn't the right area for this question.

I have both. For that size tank i would go with a hoggie. If you buy from a breeder should be on f/t.

Re: Need Help Buying Snake

I think they'll both do fine in a 20 gal tank. They both grow to about 3ft. Hoggies are CUTE but I'm more partial to colubrids. That Mexican Milk snake is a real beauty. I love those colors. I'd seriously consider keeping one but I like larger snakes. And even though they aren't venomous, they look like coral snakes . I've also heard that some hoggies can be problem feeders and most kings/milks are pretty voracious eaters. As far as the ease of care colubrids are a breeze. Get a thermostat, set your heat mat or RHP to 86-90, throw in some aspen bedding, two hides, some fake plants and a water bowl and you're good to go. You can't lose with either option but all things considered, I'd go with the milk snake. You also become an instant member in the Kings of the Forum if you get the milk . Best wishes with whatever you choose and please post pics!

Re: Need Help Buying Snake

Normally the only help I need is paying for them but I would go with the hoggie

Re: Need Help Buying Snake

I went with the Western Hognose because I like the rough look. I also think they look cuter than the milksnake. Might pick a milk snake later though.........
