: ( please help me out (feeding)

Hey yes it's me again ; ). I am still worried about my gecko . I have now had him about a month and a half. He hasnt eaten a cricket or mealwrom since i got him. I have to literally pick him up and put baby food in his mouth, all he will eat is baby food. Also to, i think he is getting skinny but it is hard to tell when u see them everday. Is it normal for when u hold him for, under his head where u can see him gulping, is it normal for it to go really really skinny one minute and then go huge like it i gonig to explode the next?

what kind of gecko?

He could be trying to shed, and be 'trapped' because it's not humid enough....mine (crested) will turn a dusty greay colour and not move for a while and then I know it's going to shed...sometimes you have to help them out....

How old is the gecko?

He is a golden gecko. I try to keep it humid all the time. It is supposed to be at 75% humidity and i try to keep it well above that just in case. To be honest i dont know hhow old he is the pet shop didnt have a clue what they were doing at all with them. I have had him for about a month and a half though. What kind of lizard is it in your pic?

My lizard in my pic is a crested gecko (not mine, mine's cuter!) I haven't had much experience with golden geckos, but they seem to have the same diet as cresteds.

At least he's eating baby food, and if that's all you might want to supply it with calcium....mine doesn't eat any baby food that I put in it's tank but it will lick it from my fingers (I USED to have to dab it on his nose so he'd lick it off......but I switched flavours and he loves banana...maybe that's all you need!)

Are the crickets too big? That could be a problem, and if there's too many in the tank/enclosure it bugs(haha a pun) them. Mine won't eat meal worms unless one is put in front of him and he's in a hunting mood....

I don't know if golden geckos are nocturnal, but he could be hunting at night....when you're asleep and not watching.

and last, he could be trying to shed....if it's like a crested gecko, sometimes it's hard to tell if they're shedding and they won't move or eat.

keep us updated

Heather

I had some feeding troubles with my crested gecko too. Again, I'm not a golden gecko keeper, but in agreement with Punkuponastar, they seem to eat the same things. My gecko doesn't seem like much of a food-loving animal. When I got him, I had to dab baby food on his nose so he'd lick it off to get him to eat. He ate from a spoon of baby food also a couple of times. I've heard from a vet friend to try heating up the baby food a little, maybe that might work. If your gecko isn't getting any bugs in him, try a meat-based baby food to compensate for the protein -- they can't survive (healthily at least) on just fruit. Then again, my gecko doesn't like the meat babyfood...but it could be individual tastes. Make sure you provide it with it's vitamin supplements and calcium as well. After about two or three weeks of having him and no bugs, my fella was pretty happy when he caught 6 mealworms in a day, and nice and fat. He doesn't seem all too fond of crickets though, which I don't understand. Perhaps you should try silkworms! They've got lots of nutrition in them. I take my geckos out of their enclosures to feed them and place them in a 4Litre container or bigger with their food so they at least get some into them. My juvies seem much less picky though. I have a little juice container lid in there with some mealworms in there, and the number of them is slowly decreasing. Try placing the food in the tank a little higher than ground level... seeing as golden geckos climb too right? That's pretty much all I know.. hope something works out for you! Good luck!

i have a golden gecko and i have the same problem .. i haven't tried babyfood yet.. but he is just chilling in his little hiding place, or on the walls, or on the roof of the cage watching the crickets go by.

If he's been acting like this for a while... TAKE HIM TO THE VET!
If you're concerned about him... TAKE HIM TO THE VET!
If that doesn't help... TAKE HIM TO ANOTHER VET!

Thats about all,
