Snake identification please

Caught this beauty in my brothers basement last night. I know it's not native to NY, and was thinking it was someone's pet bull snake.

We would appreciate any help so we can figure out whether or not to let it go. Thanks!

Eastern Milk Snake, and they are native to New York. Great find!
