Bioactive Substrate for Eastern Diamondbacks

hello everyone. I am inquiring on information for a bioactive enclosure for my Eastern diamondback. Can somebody help me figure this out? I would prefer it to be a medium humidity enclosure...not tropical. I see many bioactive substrate recipes for every other reptile, but nothing for lower humidity animals such as my EDBs, Canebrakes, and copperheads.

I'm working on my first BSS right now for an eastern hognose, and I too am aiming for a dryer enclosure. I've found that adding more sand allows it to stay more dry. Also ventilation is a big part of it, and a screen top cage is probably necessary for a dry BSS. A thick layer, I'd say at least 4 inches is best so that the top inch or so can dry out significantly without killing all the bacteria.

Humidity really shouldn't be an issue with proper ventilation though.

I don't know much about bioactive, but an alternative would be sani chips. Small uniform aspen chips that in IMO, looks like rough grained sand. Looks natural to me. The bonus is that sani chips are very easy to spot clean. (clumps like kitty litter). They also stay fresh longer than standard aspen shavings. Just another thought.
