New snake, water python

She has arrived safe and sound. My new female water python. Got her Saturday and put her in quarantine. She ate Sunday night. I pulled her out to clean her tub so I snapped a quick pic. She was totally chill until the big monster started hovering over her taking pics. She struck once at that point, but stopped as soon as I gave her space to move about. I'm very excited to have one of these beautiful animals! Hopefully she adjusts in due time and I'll get some more pictures.

Liasis Fusucs? I've got a 5 year old male if you're interested. Gorgeous species but I can't find a female.

Man now I want one. Beautiful little python you've got. Does it seem to be active or shy so far? Looks so similar to olives.

Wow, that's a gorgeous animal. I've never heard of a water python until today. Are they easy to come by? What's their upkeep like? Congrats on the beautiful new addition.

What a beautiful little snake. I love the iridescence of their skin when they reach adulthood.

Re: New snake, water python

Yes it's a liasis fuscus. It's a very cool snake. Not extremely active so far, but once I brought her out she was crawling around pretty calmly. Idk how rare they are but I don't see them much, and hardly ever for sale. As a species they're known to be bitey, but she has been very calm other than when I was hovering over her with my phone. The biggest thing I notice is how different the scales feel compared to other snakes. Very "soft". As far as there requirements, everything I know is to keep the enclosure humid, over 70%. Heat, upper 80's, low upper 70's. Millertime if you think I'm doing something wrong let me know. I only have the Internet to go off and I don't trust that info completely.

Re: New snake, water python

I keep mine like I keep my retics, hot and humid. My male isn't too bad but he definitely has a short tolerance for handling. 5-10 minutes tops before he starts lining up my face. He's got a crazy feed response, rivals the retics. I don't know if I've ever seen others for sale, maybe one or two. I've got mine for sale right now actually, just not actively pursuing it as I really like him but if someone is really interested I would let him go.

I've already seen the feed response. The day after I got her I offered her a rat and she lunged out of her hide so hard she knocked it over. Hands down the craziest feed response of any juvenile snake I've had. Idk about breeding yet. I would like to but until my work life slows down I'm only comfortable with what my fiance can handle when I'm nnot home. I'venever bred myself, so i wouldn't try to walk her through anything I'm not even sure about myself. The guy I bought her from said her mother is very well behaved and is used for educational purposes so hopefully she gets the same temperament.
