Snake ID: Unsure What Kind of Snake

Hey All!

I was walking through Edwin Warner Park in Nashville TN, and I saw this guy slithering across the road. My guess is it's a rat snake, but I'm not sure at all.

He was a big 'un, approximately 5 feet in length. Does anyone have any ideas?

Couldn't get a very good look at it. Possibly Lampropeltis getula - Common King Snake.

Body looked a little then though.

Yeah, either a gray or texas rat snake, depending on where you are.

Black Rat snake. Not likely a Gray Rat Snake in Tennessee.

Re: Snake ID: Unsure What Kind of Snake

Hmm, everything I have says TN is smack in the middle of Gray Rat range. Maybe my references are out of date/inaccurate? Could y'all point me to sites with correct information? They change the scientific names of Rat Snakes so often it makes my head spin, I usually just call them by their common name in whatever region they are found.
