Snake Identification Please!

This guy was found hiding under the stoop to our door. We live in South eastern South Carolina about 20 miles from the coast.

Re: Snake Identification Please!

It appears to be a needlessly killed northern water snake or banded water snake. Hard to tell from the dark photo.

Re: Snake Identification Please!

Looks like a harmless water snake. It's hard to tell for sure but the pupils look round. Did the door kill it?

Looks like a Banded Water Snake. Harmless. One of the best looking Water Snakes.

The door killing it was a good guess I think. It looks like that's what might have happened. Check out near the middle of the snake's body, looks like a gash there that doesn't look intentionally inflicted.

Re: Snake Identification Please!

Poor thing. I certainly hope it wasn't intentional.
