Question re: Brands of UTH
So, I'm still in "prepping to get a snake" mode. (Someone tell my car and my house to stop being money eating pits of doom, please). I was pricing out various UTHs. I know, in my research, I've seen some people pan the Zoo Med heaters...but what about Zilla? Flukers?
Those are the two other brands I figure I can get my hands on easily enough.
I'm only going to have one snake, and they'll be in a viv as opposed to in a tub, if it matters.

Re: Question re: Brands of UTH
I've tried all of those, all seem the same to me. I would recommend getting a thermostat with them though, whatever you decide to go with.
Add: you can also go with heat tape

^^^ agreed, I've owned all brands and they all seem the same to me, definitely get a thermostat as they will get hotter than you want

Re: Question re: Brands of UTH
So I'll just grab whatever then. That works!
I was already planning on grabbing a thermostat.
Heat tape intimidates me--if I were to go with that, it's probably something I'd throw at my husband and tell him to figure it out for me. Surely the electrical wizard can figure out heat tape.

The THG heat tape at RBI, they will install the power cord set for you for 99 cents. very safe and easy to use. Just plug it into your thermostat and use foil tape to tape it to bottom of enclosure. And inexpensive! When I used heat tape I placed the thermostat temp probe between the heat tape and bottom of enclosure then measured temps on hot side on substrate and made desired adjustments on thermostat up or down.

Re: Question re: Brands of UTH
I'm going to second the ultratherm heat mats, I really like these because they're inexpensive and non-adhesive, making it way easier to transfer them to another enclosure to be reused.
