not eating vegetables

Hi.

My female bearded dragon, Riley, who is a year and three quarters old, rarely eats vegetables. Every day, I put leaves, either collard greens or kale, and another fruit or vegetable (this week I tried snow peas, strawberries, bananas and grapes), in the terrarium. I also put superworms and/or dubia roaches in the terrarium.

Riley eats the worms and the roaches, but doesn't touch the vegetables or fruits.

Riley came out of brumation last week. I thought that maybe she was very hungry after brumation, and would eat vegetables. At first, I put only collard greens in the cage, which she didn't eat. Later I put worms in, and she ate them very quickly.

Before brumation, I've seen her eat one leaf at a time on very rare occasions.

Any ideas how to get her to eat vegetables?
If she doesn't eat vegetables, and I sprinkle worms and roaches with vitamins and calcium, is that ok?

Thanks!

Re: not eating vegetables

Haven't been on this forum for very long. Just read your post. Persevere with the veggies. Try different things, both fruit and vegetables. There will be something your little girl will like. You can also try putting the worms in with the veggies. They usually get a mouthful of veg trying to catch the worms.
What temps have you got in the tank? And what UV are you running?
And dusting the live food is excellent. Maybe just cut it back to three or four times a week.

Re: not eating vegetables

I have the same problem with my male, which is about 1 year old. I tried lots of fruits and vegetables, but he almost never eats it. Sometimes i just give him nothing at all for a couple of days and then try some fruit/veggie again but no result. And as soon as i put insects in his terrarium, he eats them before they touch the ground as a matter of speak....

Re: not eating vegetables

At that age, beardies generally show a lot more interest in insects than greens. It's just a matter of perseverance. Keep putting the veggies and fruit in there, and as I said in my post above, try mixing it up with different stuff. We use all of the following in different mixes to keep them interested: leafy green mix from the supermarket, kale, endive, bok and pak choy, snow peas, carrot, green peas and beans, strawberries, banana, grated apple (not too much, as this can "loosen" them up).
Every beardie has its favourite veggie food, but you can usually get them eating most things.
