Cali King Snake help!

Recently, my maybe 2 year old male has gotten some blotches? on his tail. It is only from the tip to about an inch up and they're red. They're not sores and they feel almost like he's JUST shedding there, but he's been in hibernation (i believe) for the past few weeks and i like to check up on him once in a while so it's definitely not a shed. I have no clue what this is and if anyone could shed some light on it that would be great, thank you.
