Im Stumped.....

Hello all! I would like some feedback from you guys Heres the deal i have Hanley my Adult female Ball who has never missed a meal before in her life. We recently moved and she ate for me 3 times in the new house. I went to feed her a week later and she could care less when i presented the rat. I tried again the next week and same thing. I figured she was just being picky and going off feed. Next i decided to try a live rat and she took it and now will only eat live. I would rather not feed live it makes me worry to much and i also have a stock pile of rats in the freezer. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? or does anyone else have suggestions? Please let me know.
Thanks!

Re: Im Stumped.....

Its a ball python they are notoriously picky feeders. My ball went off food for over a month then picked up again after she shed. She seems to do it every winter. As long as your girl doesn't look like she is drastically loosing weight I think you have nothing to worry about. Wait a while and then offer her food again. when she gets hungry enough she will eat

^This.

How old is she? Most of my adult female balls go off food in the winter with no changes in temps. I'm on about 2 months now with no food for some.

Just wait her out, she'll eat eventually.

I don't have a bp now but I have in the past and they can be really picky eaters. My Cal King went off feed for 3 months this winter. After 2 live feeds he's been back on f/t for the last 3 weeks. Like others have said you just have to wait them out sometimes. Best wishes, I hope she gets back on track soon.

Thanks she is about 5 years now. Im not to worried because she is a big girl. I know they can be picky i just was not sure why she would only want live over F/T. Glad to hear im not the only one going through this.

You caved in too soon. There will always be an instinctual drive for your snake to feed on live over F/T. It's just how they are made. She ate it because you offered it. Ball Pythons can go months without eating. Stick with the frozen thawed.

she's been eating equivalent of stuffers microwave lasagne, and then you offered her a living, breathing, smelly, hot, AUTHENTICO ITALIANO mamma mia lasagna perfecto!!

As others have said, i would say wait her out.
