Question?

I'm looking into possibly getting a Green tree in the future. One thing I noticed while browsing, the locality of the snake I think it is, Aru, Biak etc what do these traits have? Is it just a morph per say or does it have something to do with size.

Also any keepers recommend a good setup? I know tall enclosure before anything else with lots of climbing area and high humidity, but would a live viv be best for these guys or would Cyprus mulch and lots of water be best?

Length is more important height. Green tree pythons don't move up and down all day, they move horizontally through branches and such

I keep adults in 3x2x2's.

Aru and Biak are both Islands which contain isolated populations of green tree pythons that have their unique phenotypical traits.(Aru's are usually lime green with white flecking down the spine and Biaks are commonly green with yellow blotches...they also seem to have longer snouts)

I'd recommend getting the book called " The More Complete Chondro " by Greg Maxwell. It goes over the different locales and also in depth care/breeding.

Green Tree Pythons don't need exceptionally high humidity. Just give them a basking spot of around 85f in an enclosure with minimal ventilation. I only mist mine 1-2 times a week on newspaper and they do fine.

People just used to overheat them with high temperatures so they would dehydrate quicker. They don't do well in temps over 85f.

Miko do you have these more of looking at snakes and handle not so often or do you handle every now and then?

I had my GTP for three years before circumstances meant i had to rehome it, during that time he was handled less than ten times. To my mind they are very much display animals and too fragile for regular handling.

I personally used a 4x2x2 foot viv and he used all of it.

My personal opinion is that they can be handled just fine but it's better to just leave them alone. You'd still be interacting with them everytime you clean, feed, observe...etc.

It also depends on the individual. My female was very easy to tickle off her perch she'd climb right onto my arm. My male on the other hand did everything he could to hold on tight and ball up like a ball python. So in that case I wouldn't handle my male at all because it seemed to stress him out. My female on the other hand could have probably been handled everyday. I still left her alone.
