Hi there. I am new to the Forum.

Hello, my name is Greg. I am new to the forum and relatively new to ball pythons. Though i am not new to snakes as i have had two corn snakes for going on 3 years. However, i have only had my ball for about 4 months or so. He is a year and a half old. He is about 39" long. Such a gentle fella. i absolutely love him! I noticed that he wont eat during a shed process. But right after is no problem he gobbles up his rat. But for the last few weeks he has not eaten at all. I offered it to him during a shed just to make sure if he wanted to eat he could..no go. So i waited and after the shed..still nothing. I have a book that i have read thru about 6 times or more on this matter. it says that during winter the may fast sorta like hibernating. His tank is never in "winter" conditions so this is kind of frustrating. I do understand instincts though so no biggy. i am just wondering what some of your thoughts are on this. Its only been about 2.5 weeks since he ate last which i know isn't long but i just like to err on the side of caution. Thank you for all your help.

Hello and welcome!

My milk did this also, something's to try offer a smaller prey item. However with balls, I've heard of them refusing to eat this time of year no matter what the reason. I would be persistent with keep offering and he will eat eventually

Welcome to the forum Greg! I do understand your frustration in thos , being used to Corns in their consistent eagerness. While I don't have any Ball Pythons, I know lots of people who do. Balls are known for this and it does happen. It really hasn't been that long as you say, so I wouldn't be too concerned with it just yet. Just keep offering his rat every week. If he doesn't take it, offer it again the next week. You also might want to checks your temps and humidity levels and see if they are where they should be. Once again. welcome.
