Here are a few pictures of my new little Crotalus atrox, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

so that happens every time they shed they get a new segment to the rattle?

awesome snake btw besides the gaboon best looking hot to me

You are correct, a new segment after each shed.

What is the life span, and do they manage to keep all the segments into old age in captivity?

Life span is 20 to 25 years. They do break off. In captivity they tend to be a lot longer than in the wild.
