Monitors say hello
Monitors are getting ready for their cage overhauls- this time of year we switch over to heat, yes, even in Az it gets cold- so with everyone in the garage now I got a nice ceramic heating unit that heats the garage to a nice 80 even in the cold of night. One less worry I have. It is set on a timer as well so it shuts off at 7am when the lights turn on. Score for automation. I am noticing that the dirt in both the emeralds cage and pajaaamas is starting to not look as nice so I am going to be putting a new type of dirt in to also help keep humidity up as the ceramics zap the humidity.
Zadkiel is allowing me more trust and coming to hang out. Pajaaamas is on a roach and fish diet for a while. He is staying in burrows more and more now- dunno if he is in a semi hibernation mode or what. Figured though with less activity above ground I should compensate and drop rats for a while and chicks so he wont get round in these cooler months. Zadkiel eats insects only- by choice, i have offered small rats and he refuses them. I have given him kongs for small dogs and filled them with bugs, this lets him work his brain a bit to grab the bugs.
Kongs are awesome. I highly suggest them for tree monitors.

Re: Monitors say hello
Hi, has the V. prasinus injured the side of it`s mouth, it looks as if there are small scabs on the lips (or it may just be the photo)?

Re: Monitors say hello
V. prasinus is a tropical species, they don't brumate in the wild (reptiles don`t "hibernate").
Can you show a few photos of their whole bodies and also of the whole enclosure (or if you already have, where are they)? Thanks!
Edit: I may be mistaken, I initially thought you meant the Green tree monitors may be going into "semi hibernation", you said "paaajamas may be", what species is he/she?

Re: Monitors say hello
That's a nice looking monitor. Green tree moni faces always remind me of the veloci-raptors from Jurassic park.
