Petco sale on Zilla Critter cages ...

Hopefully this is okay to post? Didn't see it mentioned anywhere yet, so wanted to let everyone know that Petco is having a 50% off sale on their 20 and 40 gallon Zilla Critter cages, the ones with the sliding lids. Sale is good through Nov 23rd. We just picked up three 40s from ours.

yep , I saw this. 55$ ish for the 40 which is cheaper than 1$ per gallon and buying a lid for 20 bucks.

I hope not too many people here in Knoxville know about this yet - at least not until I snatch one for myself.

I would not give one dime of MY money to the corporate entity known as PETCO.

However these choices are up to you.

But any company that disposes of live animals does not get my business.

It's not even their company I wouldn't support, glass tanks with screen lids are not suitable for most reptiles(except for those that thrive in low humidity conditions).

Imo its not even suitable for those. But with some modification you can keep frogs / geckos at room temp wont have any issue since they dont need supplemental heat, there are a few species would do fine in it.

Re: Petco sale on Zilla Critter cages ...

Guys, you do realize that since the late 60's, people have been successfully keeping snakes in glass tanks, right? Plastic tubs and belly heat are a recent trend. Covering most of the screen takes care of humidity. We THINK the only way to do it is "my" way, but that simply isn't the case.

Heat is heat. Whether it's ambient temperature, belly heat, or a heat lamp warming the ground below it to GIVE belly heat. After all, that's how the sun works. I always use a piece of tile or flat rock under a heat lamp when I go that route.

I respect everyone's decision to spend their money where they want. I also will not look down on anyone for saving their hard earned money. Me? I am going to pick up a couple of 20 L's to use until my AP Rack comes in in a couple of weeks for the 2 snakes I am getting this week.

Thanks for the heads up! I can always sell them on Craig's List when I am done and make my money back. And that is just good financial sense.

Cheers to all - you are a great bunch here!!!

No arguments there, I keep all of my colubrids in glass tanks.

Balls and other tropical species fair better in higher humidity tubs, no doubt about that.

Hope I didn't sound like a jerk. Not trying to start an argument at all. I love sharing and receiving knowledge and stamping out incorrect ideas that are passed along with no validation.

Don't support trolling, just don't argue with somebody who wants to argue and they will go back under there bridge

Sorry for posting this, didn't know it would be that big a deal. I'll remember not to post similar things here in the future.

Can't argue with that sentiment, I don't like Petco either and only buy stuff there in a blue moon. I'm just not as principled as you though, when it comes to stuff that is only available there or a huge difference in money, or both. Our local Mom n Pop pet store is worse than the local Petco store, as far as how they care for their reptiles, so I don't really like to support them either and some things you just have to buy local, because you can't wait for it to be shipped.
If it makes anyone feel better, I was told by an Internet friend who owns a pet store, that the price Petco is selling their tanks for in this sale, is below the wholesale price he pays for these tanks. So, being a big chain, they possibly get a better deal on them than he, with one store, but regardless they are either losing money on them or not making more than a few dollars per tank.
