What should i get??
leading question, i know!
I'll be going to the jacksonville repticon this weekend, and i've been itching to get another snake to broaden my collection!!
I fell in love with Cribos when a member posted pictures of his new additions a month or so ago, but my boyfriend (and house) are a little apprehensive about such a large snake. Im also pretty confident that there will NOT be cribos at this show; last time it wasn't a huge selection.
Ive been thinking about getting a carpet python for a while now as well, but it would have to really be a stunner individual, and i want to be able to see pictures of the parents if possible.
I could also be swayed by the right bci, though typically i don't 'love' them; but i do find the really clean patterned, lots of light greys, very attractive….
definitely no bps, rosy, or atbs/gtps, but i'm open to suggestions!! any ideas for some morphs to look out for, or throw some black horses into the mix!?

I don't think if you listed a carpet in the group of options, that its much of a competition. Carpet breeders should have no problem giving you a lineage chart either. Get a carpet

aaron, i've always loved the MBKs (how did you know?? lol) but I'm looking for something with a little bit of size on most kings. My largest snake now is a 5 ft honduran.
I could definitely see myself with an MBK, i guess i will see whats at the expo… but like i said, I'm interested in diversifying my collection, and right now i have zero pythons…
I know i WILL have an MBK, and i know i WILL have a carpet (both, eventually), its really just a question of what i get next, vs a few years from now…

I guess one of the guiding ideas I would put out there, is keep in mind what you are currently prepared for in terms of husbandry.

a carpet would be a big change for me (I've currently kept mostly/all colubrids), but i have a tub ready for him, and a separate room for quarantine purposes. there would be a little bit of finesse at first, but i know my limits, and i know what I'm willing to commit to. i may very well end up not getting anything, i was just looking for some brainstorming about cool species i may have forgotten about.
FYI, my maximum budget is about 500$ for the animal, then add to that for humidity gages, etc etc. like i said, i have a tub ready, could potentially find a nicer display cage at the expo, etc.
**i'm not entering into this lightly

Best wishes in your search Starbuck. I have a Cal King and a MBK now. I love them to pieces and the husbandry is pretty simple. Like you, I want to add a larger snake to my collection as well. The largest colubrid I know of are bull snakes but not many morphs there. The grey banded kings, the honduran and black milk snakes are all gorgeous.That carpet python is right at the top of my wish list even though I havent researched the husbandry requirements and care sheets. Ive seen some stunning carpets and dont think you could go wrong getting one. So many beautiful animals to choose from. Good luck!

I love MBK's as well, it probably will be my next snake or a ball python. But if I were you, sounds like you already have the carpet bug

Skip the carpet and get a woma python. They're the best. Light bodied and fast. Small head so the bites don't really hurt......

lol.... Are they totally different from blackheads? Because I just had it told to me that they don't let go when they bite(the black heads, not the womas)

ah, i'd almost forgotten about womas! black heads are definitely out of my price range….
this show really did not have tons of diversity last time i went, hopefully things will be better this time around. Will post some pics if and when i make a decision. thanks for everyone's suggestions
