New enclosures!

Got a decent deal on a couple Boamaster PVC enclosures (equivalent size to AP T8) this weekend. I've already bleached them out thoroughly and letting them dry. Anything else you guys would recommend I do to make sure they're good before I set up?

My black blood is going in one but I need to figure out what to put in the other (yay, excuse to get another snake!). It was a combo and couldn't pass them up. I've been thinking perhaps a BRB or carpet. I know carpets are semi-arboreal and enjoy climbing space. I don't feel I could work that out with only 1 foot of vertical space. Thoughts?

It can be done. You can put perches in at different levels. My carpets tend to stretch out across the perches. Even at 6 to 8 inches off the floor you be surprise how much they use them. The totes i use are 14 inches high with the perches at about 8 inches up and my carpets spend about 80% of their time on them or more.

You could create climbing space if you use space efficiently with perches but I agree with you that 1 foot is a not much to work with for a carpet python. You could always raise a carpet python there and get a new snake when you get a taller enclosure for it lol...

Yeah you can see his enclosures in the put up or shut up thread, you can take some ideas for perches from there. I also posted my enclosures on the last page.

I'm convinced that carpets don't care if they are 4" or 4' off the ground as long as they can hang from somewhere

Chuck, you bring me hope on a stick. Makes sense now that you put it that way. I wasn't taking into account the horizontal perch space. Do you prefer belly or back heat for your carpets?

Belly! My snakes will always go sit on the heat for a couple days after eating and when in shed. That about the only time they aren't on the perches.

Lol I thought about getting one then moving it to something taller. Thanks for the reminder of that post about everyone's setup.

Thanks for the pics. I'd rather do belly heat since I'm more familiar with the ins and outs. So the ground setup is pretty similar to most other terrestrial species, correct? A couple hides, temperature gradient, water bowl, etc...just with a few perches thrown in up higher?

How do you guys with perches go about mounting them inside the enclsoure?

I get wood dowels and drill a hole in each end. Then i drill holes in the cage and then just screw screws into the ends.

Do you look for certain wood in wooden dowels?(Not sure what to use, I just know not to use treated dowels, pine and cedar dowels)

Mine never used the hides so i just took them out. Now babies will use hides but mine are all adult that just have no use for them.

The ones i get are made out of Maple, Birch or Oak.
