sexing
So how do people sex there snakes? I've seen popping and probing and examining the tail and looking for spurs and such. I have three snakes, the breeder tells me one is a girl the pet store thinks one is a boy and no one knows what my king snake is so we just call it a he.
Popping just doesn't look right to me so I would rather probe, but with that said I'm not really sure about how to safely do so. It costs about 100 to get a snake sexed at a vet and that doesn't sound cost efficient to me, especially since I plan to get more snakes. I know I can find a set of probes at the upcoming Seattle metro expo, but I still don't know how to use them. Any suggestions on how to learn? Thanks.

Re: sexing
Why not take the $100 have the vet do it and ask the vet to show you how to do it. Most exotic vets are more than willing to help you out.

Re: sexing
external examination is perhaps good in theory, however, in practice, I would NEVER buy an specific sex animal based on that. Probing is the answer.

Re: sexing
Those pictures helped me out!
I've been trying the palpitating thing
& I don't feel no bump/s & my brbs tail looks
Like the "female example" one.

Re: sexing
Probing is the only real way to know people can be good at guessing but never certain just by looking. It could be possible to tell with the boids as the male spurs are quite a bit bigger than those on a female but wouldent trust that 100% if I was planing on a breeding progect or somthing

Yeah these pictures do help a lot and have certainly helped me out when i found them, but it isn't always 100% correct like the guy above and some others have said.

Re: sexing
Yeah I can certainly make educated guesses and the pictures do help with that, thank you drum. But I do really want to learn how to probe for myself, maybe I will have to speak to the vet.

Re: sexing
First off anyone that looks at a picture and picks a gender is a fool. You can't go by spur length, bulges or tail length. It's not accurate nor is it worth the gamble.
I sold two snakes I was 100% positive were males because I did the visual sexing thing. Both turned out to be females. I took a large loss on them both because I trusted bad info
