Baby Beardie

Hello all, just recently aquired a baby bearded dragon from a friends friend. They just got him not too long ago and they said their mom wouldn't let them keep him so he was free. he is still very tiny and i just want to be sure im doing it right. for now he is on paper towels with 2 hides and a water bowl. i got him a digital thermometer. i dont have anything in there to measure humidity, i was under the impression they dont need it? please correct me if im wrong. i can create a humid box if needed during sheds or whatever. i've got some uva/b rays on him and a basking light 75 watt. he came in a 20 gal long. his hot side is about 90 i think.. im concerned that may be too hot so i turned down the heat lamp a little i haven't measured his basking spot yet i will once the ambient is good in the cage. I have some veggies i can supply to him and i will be feeding him roaches... am i missing anything?! lol.

Thanks for the help, he is gorgeous his markings are awesome i will post some pictures shortly.

Re: Baby Beardie

90 is a little too cool I think. Every animal should have a thermostat to control the heat source.

for the ambient on the hot side? 90 is too cold? im not talking about the basking spot...

I have never tried thermostats for the lights before. ill look into it... i buy the lights with the dimmers on them usually.

In that case nevermind. I thought you were talking about the basking spot.

I have thermostats on light bulbs and they work well. Just make sure it's dimming proportional and not pulse proportional. I've tried pulse proportional one time and the lights were flicking on and off like a strobe light.

I use Herpstat. I use mainly herpstat 2's and herpstat 4's(2 and 4 is the number of heat sources you can control)

go to spyderrobotics.com

Another good one is vivariumelectronics.com. However I don't know if they are dim proportional.

Herpstat has the option to be dim, pulse, or non-proportional(on/off). With both of these stats you have an option for a night drop.
