Cage cleaning today
Hi everybody,
I have both my kingsnakes on aspen bedding. I spot clean their tanks as needed and completely change all bedding once a month. Just wondering how often others change their critters cages. I'm also thinking of trying coco husk or repti bark instead of aspen. Any pros or cons I should be aware of?

Re: Cage cleaning today
The only cons I can see with those two beddings are the high humidity conditions that come with them. In glass enclosures you can pretty much control the conditions to your liking but in my pvc cages without misting humidity can get to 70% just from the water bowl.
Other than that they are great. I have both my kingsnakes on cocohusk in screen top enclosures and they've been doing great.
I spotclean as needed and change everything about once a month or two as well.

I use cocohusk and I change it every six months.

Re: Cage cleaning today
I use reptibark and do a full clean about once a year. When they poop or pee i clear the mess plus a decent area around the mess and then throw in a handful of clean bark to fill the hole.

Re: Cage cleaning today
I use aspen, I spot clean once a week and actually clean the whole tank about every 4 months. My king doesn't ever really get her cage too dirty. But my garters on the other hand...I don't even wanna talk about how messy they are haha

I have been thinking about trying coco husk when my huge bag of aspen is gone. I use the same monthly substrate change along with spot cleaning. I'm just concerned that the cocohusk would keep the humidity too high for my kings.

It won't be issue if there is ventilation. I've been using it with both my kings and they've had no problems. And depending on what kind of king you have, high humidity is not bad. Especially for kings from high humidity areas like Florida or the southern states.

Good to know. May give it a shot. Have screen tops on my 3 vivs.

Re: Cage cleaning today
I bought another big bag of aspen today. The reptibark didn't look that great for burrowing and the aspen was on sale. I was also thinking it might be tough to see my MBK on the darker bedding. Maybe another time. After cleaning the vivs today I think I can go to bi-monthly bedding changes. The tanks weren't very dirty at all.
