Lost snake??
So my boyfriends BRB apparently got out of her tank yesterday (not exactly sure how that happened...she's tiny and it's a locking lid. my 6'6" couldn't open it if she tried.) He said he checked everywhere under the substrate for her but can't find her. Shes tiny, too. I posted a thread of pictures of her, only about 8 or 9 months so it's not like you can easily spot her cruising around on the floor.
Anyway, do you guys have advice about how to find her and/or get her to come out?? Thanks, much appreciated.

Re: Lost snake??
Sometimes small snakes can climb up and hide under the ridge at the top of the tank. My brothers corn does that a lot. When my king was a baby, she would get herself in this area of one of her hides where I couldn't see her or get her out

Re: Lost snake??
Young snakes are great at hiding. I tore my viv apart to find my tiny rat snake, only to find her coiled up behind the styrofoam backdrop, hissing away. So keep looking! Check everywhere twice, then check again.

Re: Lost snake??
Snakes normally move next to the baseboard and places they can remain concealed. Look near any heat sources like computers, TV, ect. The snake is going to be hiding some where and not out in the open.

Re: Lost snake??
UPDATE: Still haven't found her yet. It's been about 3 weeks. :/ how long do you think a snake would last outside of their tank?

Re: Lost snake??
Check the fridge and freezer compresers. They like the heat.

Unfortunately the smaller and younger they are- the less time they can survive outside without food and water. An older well fed snake can go 6 months- but that is not a given either and that is about the limit.
I don't necessarily agree with the heat source theory-they tend to do that when they first escape, but then they find a cool hide and don't move in my experience.
The rub is that the smaller they are, the harder they are find and the less time there is to find them. You literally have to look everywhere. I pretty much tear my house apart when I have an escape-starting with the closets. Good luck and keep looking.

Re: Lost snake??
We found her I went over to his house and she was laying, alive on a rug in the basement. His aunts theory is that she was hiding out in the guest bedrooms bed. She threw the blankets down the shoot and 10 minutes later she was in the basement. I picked her up, and she struck at my once but was fine after that. We went and bought her 2 hopper mice since she hadn't eaten in well over 3 weeks. He took her out to feed her and she struck at him a couple times since she smelled the mice but she took them both down happily and is back in her home

Re: Lost snake??
nice to hear a happy ending
have you found out how she got out yet? if you cant figure it out then you should use something else to house her until you do (RUB for eg) - bare in mind that a snake can get thru a hole much smaller than you would imagine it could
