Suggestions for new creature?
Hi all. In celebration of finishing my bachelor's degree I decided I would get a new reptile/amphibian. Actually it just gives me an excuse to get something I was thinking maybe some sort of lizard (I'm not that into geckos). The next snake I really want to get is a carpet python but I'm not sure I'm quite ready to add that yet. I am planning on going to the Hamburg, PA reptile show in October and hopefully having some idea what I would like to come home with. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Suggestions for new creature?
I'm trying to stay away from something entirely aquatic. I got out of fish because of the hassle. I have looked at axolotls though

Re: Suggestions for new creature?
my axolotl is so easy though! and hardy :P
lol he just made the move from NY to FL in a 4 gallon cooler/the fridge for 5 days :P it is a hassle though i'll agree, having to move a heavy, aquatic tank... but once it is up and running its a dream.
i like big day geckos quite a bit. they are pretty flashy and beautiful, if not handleable, and you can have a lot of fun creating a display cage for them.

Re: Suggestions for new creature?
I'm going to recommend axolotls if you are able to change your mind on the whole "non-aquatic" thing.
But if you really don't want the work of an aquatic setup, you could always get a salamander of some sort. I love my tiger, he begs for food everyday.. Just presses himself against the glass and wants to be fed.
Now, keep in mind that not all sallies are like that, you will get some that might burrow a lot or dart away when they see you.
So would a mali uromastyx, but they can be a pain because of their stringent needs for high heat and a variety of plants, including occasional seeds and fruit.
A beardie is also cool, but they are similar to the uromastyx in that they need high temps and fresh greens, seeds, fruit, etc. They are very friendly though, and can be fun to feed bugs to.
So, yeah, you have a lot of options..

Re: Suggestions for new creature?
To the OP, what are you willing to feed: veggies, rodents or insects? Also, how much space can you devote? And are you more focused on something to handle or just a display pet?
This may help you narrow down your search.

Re: Suggestions for new creature?
Carpet python no use in waiting I'm a 15 year old girl and my carpet is my first snake. And I'm taking good care of her, she had two infections but with a trip to the vet and some take home injections she's almost healed. Go for a carpet.<3
