Slime build up in water fountains and bowls

For most of my snake's enclosures I like to use table top fountains as their drinking source and humidity control; Hwever the only problem is that slime builds up very quickly. Could someone tell me what this slime/bacteria is and how; if there's a way to get rid of it other than constant cleaning? Its a pain the a** to clean these fountains every week and I was wondering if this slime/bacteria is even harmful to my snakes. I was thinking about putting some pond sludge removal product from homedepot that advertises getting rid of sludge and is non-toxic to fish and wildlife that drink from it. It supposedly adds beneficial bacteria to eat up the slime.

You should clean em daily, its part of the responsibility of owning the animal. Or buy a bunch of them and replace them daily, and at the end of the week throw them all in the dish washer.
