At the moment I don't have any reptiles, the last 4 months I've been eyeing Irian Jaya CP, Jungle CP, Western Hog Nose, Hogg Island boas and just recently after lurking around this forum, Dumerials. Not really interested in Colubrids, aside from maybe a Gopher.

I just can't decide on what I want to go with, I've had a 74QT Sterlite, intellitemp heat pad hooked up to a hydrafarm thermostat, big ceramic dog bowl, digital hydro/therm, even frozen pinkies, all ready to go this whole time, haha!

I figure if I keep reading about enough peoples enjoyment of these select reptile I'll choose something eventually.

I would put my reptile experience at a beginner/intermediate level as I've never had a hard to care for species, I had a beardie for just under 10 years years and I had a BP 12 years or so ago, brought it home without permission, inexperience and irresponsibility had the BP end up out of it's cage with the family Dachsund and cat going nuts in the hall way at 3 AM, and a family member snake phobic meant the BP had to go, haha! Only had it maybe 6 weeks.

The only thing I have these days is a large, beautiful and healthy Oscar fish.

So if anyone wants to throw me some suggestions for a personable(as a snake can be ;P), typically docile species I've not thought of please write me!

Re: New guy

Hello and welcome. A lot of people on here are going to recommend a ball python or corn snake as a good beginner snake. How big of snake are you wanting to end up with? Keep in mind that while Dumeril's are cool, they can end up quite thick and heavy. Oh, and hopefully you have rat pinkies, not mice? Starting out with rat pinks will make things easier in the long run, as you won't have to deal with the transition from mice to rats later on down the road.
