How many air-holes in new tub?
Hi, everyone. I got a new tub for my Ball Python. This one has the same dimension. Kinda.. The old one was 16" x 13" x 6". This one's 16" x 13" x 13" so it's just a lot taller. I am going to build this little guy a high perch, and an "upstairs" area. So here's my question... I have eight air holes. all of them are 1/2 inch wide. I will include an image for perspective. Is that enough air holes or should I put more? Thanks.

Also, he hasn't tried to put his head in any of the holes, yet, so that's good. I was worried about that at first.

Half an inch is pretty large and unnecessary. Then again, so is fidgeting with something that doesn't need to be changed, and changing his home and stressing him out for nothing.
The holes I make in my enclosures are 1 cm in diameter at best.

The drill bit I used has a spike looking thing that drills a hole way smaller, but I accidentally held it down too long, and got big 1/2 inch holes.

No. But there's no point in having one huge air hole, and a bunch of small ones.

Thanks for your opinion. Perhaps you don't like changing your snakes enclosures. I changed mine's enclosure because of that vent I made. It broke, but I guess a snake on the loose is better than one that's stressed. (And partially because I wanted to add a few cool things) But that's not what this post is about. I was just wondering if that was a suitable amount of air holes.

There is no point in making them all big. I would have just drilled smaller and more holes. But what is done is done.
To answer your question, those holes are definitely enough. Does your house get cold in the winter?

This tub is for my little female Dumeril's boa. It's 23x16x7 and it has (18) 1/4" diameter holes....5 across each side and 4 on each end. Humidity stays at 50-60% with a small water bowl and no misting (humidity is low in the pic because I had the lid off right before the pic was taken). I mist it when she's shedding and it stays at about 70% for at least a week. Keep in mind that the humidity in my room is only around 20-25% too. Its heated with a UTH on a Hydrofarm stat and ambient temp stays at 78-82 with a hot spot of 88-90.

Keep an eye on the humidity, that should be a good indicator if the number of holes you have are sufficient. I had to add more than I though to my STP tubs- they are heavy breathers!

Well the humidity is fine, and the tubs are only $8 so it wouldn't have really mattered if it wasn't holding humidity. Could just go buy another one
