Natural setups for mammals/marsupials?

So has anyone here tried, or know someone who has tried to set up mammals or marsupials in natural setups with soil, live plants, logs etc? I am just curious as when I have the money I would love to get a Short tail possum or pygmy mice and have them in a natural setup. I love watching animals behave naturally and think such a setup would be amazing. This question is mostly for small creatures that do well in aquariums, certainly not rats and such.

What are peoples opinions on this? Would this ever work?

It was just for inspiration, plus there are logs and branches in the enclosures, which are natural.

mammals dont do very well in aquariums, urine tends to build up which leads to issues with ammonia, unless its very large and well planted it can be difficult to deal with and lead to all sorts of health problems
