Re: The majestic turtle entering it's native habitat

This reminds me of the time I was on a boat to a wildlife park and a turtle fell off a log while basking. :P

Nice gif.

Re: The majestic turtle entering it's native habitat

i think it looks like a large red bellied slider (or related). the shell didnt seem spiny/irregular enough for a snapper in my opinion.

Re: The majestic turtle entering it's native habitat

I've seen our Common Snappers with smooth shells before. Head definitely wrong for a Painted Turtle.

100% not a snapper. Look at that plastron.

Ah! Didn't notice the belly!
It doesn't look like our eastern painteds though either, I just saw three while kayaking yesterday that looked nothing like the one in the gif. Wish the gif was clearer.

Re: The majestic turtle entering it's native habitat

There are 8 turtles native to Ontario.
Here's a link to those turtles. In my opinion it's probably a painter turtle. Of course there is the outside chance this was a non-native turtle released by its former owner.

S&W - Turtles of Ontario
Common Snapping Turtle
Wood Turtle
Spotted Turtle
Musk Turtle
Northern Map Turtle
Painted Turtle
Spiny Softshell Turtle
Blandings Turtle
