New arrival!! Apodora Papuana yearling!
Arrived safe a sound today! Very friendly and curious right out of the bag. Photos do not do the coloration justice. May not be everyone's cup of tea, but I have wanted one of these interesting creatures for years! She is a little over two feet and 9 moths old. Looking forward to caring for and observing this one. The base skin color underneath the scales is black and shows up in interesting places: nostrils, mouth, vent, between scales, etc. What I did not realize is that every scale imperfection looks like a black mite!!-and her scales are very very small.

Very neat species.
Do not see them very often. Had the pleasure of working with a couple a number of years ago. Haven't seen them since!

Fairly docile. They were in the 6 - 8 foot range. Don't recall much about them, as I said I worked with them so I wasn't the regular caregiver, just on occasion.

They're wonderful snakes...and very impressive when they're 14 feet.

Thanks for the nice words guys. Derek, I have seen some that large and they are impressive but the space they occupy is much smaller then say a retic. Having said that, however, I am certainly not going to "hurry" her to 15 feet!

Re: New arrival!! Apodora Papuana yearling!
I've always loved these guys. When i was on the Darkside Reptile site before it shut down there was a lady with three of them. She would post pictures of herself hold them quite a bit. The biggest one was around 12 feet if i remember correct. She said the were mellow for the most part. Just had to be extra careful at feed time and a couple days after. That one thing i remember her saying was her and her boy friend could not walking the snake room after feeding for a couple days or one of them would strike at the cage door. But on a side note she did get them as adults. With yours being so young it give you time to work with them.

Marvel freak,
Anxious to see what feeding response is like. Hopefully I will not have to stay out of the room!

She said they never seen snake stay in feed mode so long. I do recall her boyfriend saying after a couple month's they up the food size and that seemed to help.
Can't wait to see more picture once it settles in. You should do like "my yellow anaconda" thread and up date this thread every few month's. That way we can all see how she progresses.
