Found infront of my house

I've never actually caught one of these, he was hopping full speed somewhere. Couldn't resist bringing him in to show to my buddy for a few minutes and take a few pics, I was pretty excited.

Very cool! Almost looks like he has a frog-picture on his back . . . cute little guy!

Re: Found infront of my house

The rainy/summer season here has brought TONS of those little buggers (I'm not frog savvy so it's prob a different species). I went for a walk with my dog and saw them everywhere. Last year we woke up one morning to about 100 in our pool as well (on our SCREENED lanai to make it even more bizzare), and more every day afterwards. Hopefully not again this year :P

Re: Found infront of my house

I love tree frogs. I live on a lake so we get the grays and the peepers here. They are adorable.

I have two right now and they are fun little guys. Sometimes they like to sing to you.

Re: Found infront of my house

I don't like to keep animals I catch more than 5-10 minutes. Little dude was freakin, so I let him go on the tree in my balcony and he went on his merry little way.

Looks like a Gray treefrog, albeit an abnormally greenish one.

Gray tree frogs turn a light gray and green color in the warm months in New England. They are darker gray in cool months. I have a tough time sometimes being able to tell the difference between the peeper and juvenile grays. We find both of them on the front of our house below the lights. We get millions of these gnat type bugs that swarm and then land on the house. The frogs have a field day/night eating there.

Re: Found infront of my house

StudenttoReptile and Zoo Nanny, thanks for helping with the identification and explanation of color variation! I wondered what the little guy was, but I'm not much of a frog person, though it's one critter I'd like to learn more about.

My stepson gave me a frog-call and identification DVD & book, so I'm looking forward to being able to make a better-educated stab at identifying some of the frogs I hear at night--we have a creek running through our property, so we hear LOTS of frogs. Bullfrog is the only one I can easily ID both by voice and by body.

Anyway, this little tree frog is a cutie! Thanks for sharing him (or her), smy_749!

Re: Found infront of my house

Yeah, we have the Copeland's grays down here in the south. I think the other subspecies is more prevalent in the northeast.
