Eastern King questions

Hey Lampropeltis people, was wondering if any of you could explain the difference between a normal eastern king snake (chain king) and a black eastern kingsnake. Is this a morph, or a subspecies?

Re: Eastern King questions

They are two different subspecies.

Lampropeltis getula nigra is the eastern black king.

Lampropeltis getula getula is the eastern chain king.

Thank you. I figured but could not find any info. I would assume they interbreed with the chain king, and was not sure if they were separate subspecies. We have both species in flemmington nj.
