Quick advice needed...

We may be adopting an adult female BRB. She's not coming with an enclosure. I need advice on what is appropriate for her as she's a bit over 6 feet long.

Can you guys post pics of your enclosures or give me some ideas on how much room she's going to need?

I mean, I dont' think a 41 quart rack bin would suffice, but if I got a larger tote, would that work?

I'm not a fan of keeping them in tubs, I think they should have proper enclosures with some more room than most tubs provide. But if you can find one of those 'christmas tree storage bins' that would be an appropriately sized tub to put a 6 ft snake in. Try looking at your local Home Depot or Lowe's for the biggest storage bin they have if you want to go the tub route.

check out a proper BRB care sheet for temp and humidity requirements. For my big females I use 3x2 boaphile plastic cages. They work great. I have heard good things about animal plastics as well. I tube for an adult female BRB is a little on the small size, even the CB110 (christmas tree storage bins).

Just looked up the CB110 - that's not the bin I'm thinking of when I say 'christmas tree storage bin', the BB110 is much too shallow and not long enough. In hindsight, I shouldn't have used that phrase, it was too vague. Hmm, let me go see if I can find a link to what I'm talking about, I usually see them pop up around in my local stores around Christmas time.

This is what I was talking about, at 52x20x14 its a much more spacious tub to put a snake of that size in.

Some good tips here. I agree that snakes, especially adults, deserve full enclosures rather than tubs.

For a rainbow, you want at least six square feet of floor space. The temp gradient should be 82F (warm end) to 72F (cool end) -- do not go over this, as sustained temps over 85F can kill them. Humidity should be 90%+. Make sure to add lots of hides and avoid bright lights, as this species is secretive and noctural. Glass tanks are not the best choice, and if you use one make sure to cover any screen top with plexiglass, as well watch the heat -- glasss conducts a little *too* well. Covering a few sides with background scenes will also help provide privacy. Good luck!

I agree on the sentiment of keeping adult snakes in vivariums. The only exception to this we've practiced is some of our ball pythons which seem to thrive in racks. All the rest are in larger enclosures.
